Julie Walters

Julie Walters came to the University of Arizona in 1981 and was a member of the field hockey team only to have the program eliminated because of state budget cuts. She moved to soccer and competed in the Tucson Women’s Soccer League from 1983 until 2008.

After graduating from UA in 1985, Walters started her coaching career at Orange Grove Middle School. She coached softball, boys’ and girls’ soccer and baseball for six years, winning numerous division titles.

In 1992-93 Catalina Foothills High School opened and Walters became the boys’ soccer coach. During her 19-year tenure the school has won four state titles and nine regional championships. She has been named Coach of the Year in 1999, 2001, 2006, 2008 and 2011 and was a finalist for National Coach of the Year in 2001.

In 2003 Walters became head coach of the boys’ golf team at Catalina Foothills High School, winning one state title (2001) and three state runner-up finishes. She was named Coach of the Year in 2010.
